Back to the Future Musical Celebrates with New Cast, International Productions, and Special Cameos for Back to the Future Day
This year’s Back to the Future Day gets an extra spark of excitement as Leigh Francis makes a special cameo as Principal Strickland in the West End production, marking the annual celebration of the iconic film trilogy. The day, celebrated worldwide on October 21st, commemorates the date Marty McFly travels to the future in Back to the Future II. Fans of the franchise can also look forward to new international productions and exclusive behind-the-scenes content.
To celebrate Back to the Future Day this year, Leigh Francis will make a one-time appearance as Principal Strickland in the West End show on October 21, adding a touch of humour and nostalgia for fans.
In exciting news for Back to the Future enthusiasts abroad, it’s been announced that a German production of the hit musical will open during the 2025/2026 season, with more details to come. Additionally, Royal Caribbean will debut a special 100-minute version of the musical aboard its newest ship, Star of the Seas, setting sail from Port Canaveral in August 2025.
Following a recent cast change in London, exclusive backstage photos have been released, offering fans a closer look at the talented new lineup. The new cast includes Vasco Emauz as Marty McFly, making his West End debut, and Orlando Gibbs as George McFly. Joining them are C.J. Borger, Alex Runicles, and Talia Palamathanan, along with returning stars like Cory English as Doctor Emmett Brown.
The production continues to break records and win accolades, including the Olivier Award for Best New Musical and multiple WhatsOnStage Awards. It’s now entering its fourth year in London’s West End, with performances currently booking until July 27, 2025, at the Adelphi Theatre.
Back to the Future: The Musical has already captivated audiences across London, Broadway, and North America, with a North American tour currently running through August 2025. The show is also set to open in Japan in 2025, expanding its global reach.
Since its London debut in September 2021, the musical has been seen by over 1.6 million people, and its original cast recording, featuring music by Alan Silvestri and Glen Ballard, has garnered over 20 million streams. The Deluxe Edition of the album, released by Sony Masterworks, offers fans 13 never-before-heard demos and alternate versions of key songs from the show.
With plans for global productions and exciting developments on stage, Back to the Future: The Musical continues to transport audiences back in time, blending nostalgia, music, and unforgettable performances.

UK Theatre Awards 2024: Winners Announced in Celebration of British Theatre
The winners of the UK Theatre Awards 2024 were unveiled at a celebratory ceremony hosted by Faye Tozer at 8 Northumberland Avenue. These prestigious awards honour the very best of theatre from across England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland, recognising creative excellence and outstanding work both on and off stage.
With winners representing all four nations, the event highlighted the diversity and strength of the UK theatre industry. Leeds Playhouse’s production of Oliver! led the way with two major wins, including Best Musical Production and Best Performance in a Musical for Jenny Fitzpatrick.
In the On Stage categories, Best Director went to Drew McOnie for The Artist at Theatre Royal Plymouth, while Best Play Revival was awarded to Rhino at Lyric Theatre Belfast. Best New Play went to Swim, Aunty, Swim! from the Belgrade Theatre. The Stephen Joseph Theatre’s production of Beauty And The Beast took home Best Show for Children & Young People, and Achievement in Dance was awarded to Mehek, a co-production by Aakash Odedra Company and Aditi Mangaldas Dance Company. Achievement in Opera went to Welsh National Opera for Death In Venice.
In the acting categories, Best Performance in a Play was awarded to David Shields for Punch at Nottingham Playhouse, and Best Supporting Performance was given to Chumisa Dornford-May for her role in Evita at the Curve Theatre.
Polka Theatre was crowned the UK’s Most Welcoming Theatre, beating out strong competition. Off-stage recognition included Chichester Festival Theatre winning the Excellence in Sustainability Award, and the Excellence in Inclusivity Award going to Antony & Cleopatra at Shakespeare’s Globe.

The Lion King Celebrates 25 Years in London's West End with Spectacular Gala Performance
Disney's The Lion King celebrated 25 successful years at the West End's Lyceum Theatre with a special gala performance. Original creative team members, including Julie Taymor, Lebo M, and Richard Hudson, were present, alongside celebrity guests like Tom Allen, Sophie Duker, and Nick Mohammed. The highlight of the event was a powerful rendition of The Circle of Life, featuring five Rafikis from productions across Europe, sung in multiple languages.
In addition to the performance, the Outernet in London hosted a stunning visual installation that honoured the production's behind-the-scenes heroes. The display celebrated the intricate craftsmanship involved in creating The Lion King, from its iconic costumes and puppets to its complex set design.
Since its UK debut in 1999, The Lion King has captivated over 19 million theatregoers and is now the fifth longest-running West End musical. The production continues to enchant audiences with its vibrant storytelling, unforgettable music, and stunning visual design, which draws heavily on African cultural influences to bring Simba's journey to life.
A Milestone for an Iconic Show
The West End anniversary gala was a fitting tribute to Julie Taymor’s groundbreaking adaptation of The Lion King, which first premiered on Broadway in 1997. Since then, 25 global productions in nine languages have entertained audiences worldwide. Taymor's visionary direction, combined with Michael Curry's innovative puppetry, Garth Fagan’s choreography, and Richard Hudson’s scenic design, has made The Lion King one of the most celebrated and enduring musicals in history.
With a score that blends Western popular music and African rhythms, the stage version of The Lion King expands on Elton John and Tim Rice's original songs from the animated film, including new songs by South African composer Lebo M and additional material by Julie Taymor and Mark Mancina. Songs like Can You Feel the Love Tonight and Shadowland continue to captivate audiences with their emotional resonance and cultural depth.
As the Lyceum Theatre continues to host this beloved show, The Lion King remains a testament to the power of theatrical storytelling, blending art, culture, and music to create an unforgettable experience for all ages.

101 Dalmatians Cast Teams Up with Guide Dogs UK for a Pawsome Charity Event at Woking's New Victoria Theatre
The cast of 101 Dalmatians the Musical, led by Kym Marsh as Cruella de Vil, met real-life guide dogs and puppies in training during a special charity event at the New Victoria Theatre in Woking. The event raised £2,115 for Guide Dogs UK.
