TINA- The Tina Turner Musical launches costume exhibition in Covent Garden
To honour the life and legacy of Tina Turner, TINA – The Tina Turner Musical has launched a stunning pop-up costume exhibition in Covent Garden. This free-to-attend display showcases six iconic costumes from the hit West End production, set against the backdrop of the legendary artist's most memorable moments and songs. Visitors can see these outfits up close and explore the visual legacy of the Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll in the heart of one of London's most vibrant cultural districts.
The exhibition features six costumes, each tied to pivotal moments in Tina Turner’s career, from the golden fringe dress she wore during “Proud Mary” to the famous red dress from “The Best (Simply).” Displayed along Central Avenue in Covent Garden’s historic Market Building, the costumes are accompanied by photographs that compare their use in the musical to how Tina herself wore these iconic looks. Fans can immerse themselves in the story of Tina’s musical journey, which continues to electrify audiences in London’s West End after six record-breaking years at the Aldwych Theatre.
TINA – The Tina Turner Musical premiered in 2018, created in collaboration with Tina herself, and has since become a global sensation, with productions on Broadway and across Europe, Australia, and North America. The London show features Karis Anderson and Zoe Birkett sharing the role of Tina, with Rolan Bell as Ike Turner. This critically acclaimed production offers a powerful portrayal of Tina’s life, showcasing both her rise to global superstardom and the personal struggles she overcame along the way.
The pop-up exhibition offers a rare opportunity to see these significant costumes up close while celebrating Tina’s extraordinary influence on music and fashion. Highlights include costumes from the musical numbers “Fool in Love,” “Disco Inferno,” “What’s Love Got to Do with It,” and more. Fans can also experience the pulse-pounding soundtrack of Tina’s greatest hits live on stage at the Aldwych Theatre, where TINA – The Tina Turner Musical continues its run.
Covent Garden, known for its thriving arts scene and home to over 20 theatres, is the perfect setting for this unique exhibition. Visitors can browse the Market Building, enjoy shopping and dining, and explore Covent Garden’s iconic Piazza. The area also boasts more than 1,400 al fresco dining seats, making it ideal for a full day of theater and entertainment. Partner restaurants, including SUSHISAMBA, The Ivy Market Grill, and VyTA, offer special pre- and post-theatre menus.
In addition to celebrating Tina Turner’s legendary career, the exhibition has partnered with Women’s Aid, an organization Tina passionately supported. A survivor of domestic abuse herself, Tina Turner wanted her musical to authentically reflect her experiences, and this partnership aims to raise awareness about domestic abuse. The exhibition will include information about the charity’s mission and the impact of domestic violence on survivors, alongside opportunities to donate and support their cause.
The TINA – The Tina Turner Musical Costume Exhibition runs from 15th October to 10th November 2024 at Covent Garden’s Central Avenue, Market Building. Visitors can also enter for a chance to win tickets and backstage experiences for the musical by following QR codes and interactive boards throughout the exhibition.
Produced in the West End by Stage Entertainment in association with Tina Turner, this vibrant exhibition is a must-visit for both Tina Turner fans and theatre lovers alike.
